Why Do Schools Matter?

Or any of the many other questions that might inspire this essential, urgent and vibrant discussion: How do schools matter? How might we ensure schools matter? Do schools matter (wow, that’s dark)? What and where is school? What do we really mean when we say “school”?

I suspect that among passionate educators my journey is not entirely unique. I consider myself lucky to look back on my own experience as an adolescent learner with some level of disdain. It is my relative distance and disenchantment from traditional constructs of education that fuels my passion for education. And so, I find myself in continuous pursuit of understanding how we learn and how best to inspire and facilitate the learning of teachers and students alike.

How might we continuously examine, shift and refine our understanding of and approach to education by relentlessly exploring the often wide gap between what we know or believe in, and what we actually do.?
